When you think “Tom Jones” what is the first song that comes to mind? For most people, the answer would be his 1965 smash-hit “It’s Not Unusual.” It’s an absolutely classic and arguably his most famous song of all.
That’s `precisely what the audience of The Voice UK wanted to hear from Tom. But it took some convincing for him to leave behind his role of judge and step into the role of performer.
When Tom appeared as a guest judge on The Voice UK, everyone wanted to hear from him. Olly started the nudging by singing a short part of the song, “It’s Not Unusual.”
Tom replies with an appreciative “yah!” but doesn’t take the hint to start singing. Then the crowd starts chanting his name and clapping. When the band finally begins the first few rifts of the song, he cannot ignore the situation any longer. It was a flash mob of requests.
Modestly he starts, but soon he is into the swing of things. He starts clapping, stands up and belts out the signature song with all of the enthusiasm of yesteryear.
“It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone. It’s not unusual to have fun with anyone. But when I see you hanging about with anyone it’s not unusual to see me cry, I wanna die. It’s not unusual to go out at any time. But when I see you out and about it’s such a crime. If you should ever want to be loved by anyone. It’s not unusual it happens every day no matter what you say. You’ll find it happens all the time. Love will never do what you want it to. Why can’t this crazy love be mine?”
In the end, the audience goes wild when he adds a few flourishing moves which makes the crowd go wild! Ah, this is the music I remember so well. God Bless Tom Jones he, like this song you’re about to hear, are both true classics.
I think it’s funny when celebrities get starstruck… I love the look on Jennifer Hudson’s face when the music starts and at 1:15. These are the moments that make The Voice so wonderful to watch.
