Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage
Jennifer Lopez has reportedly filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, and the timing of her decision is raising eyebrows.
The past week seems to be “break-up season,” with several high-profile splits making headlines, including this one.
If you’ve recently gone through a breakup, you’re not alone—Lopez and Affleck are right there with you. News broke that Lopez filed legal documents for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20.
TMZ reported that Lopez filed the papers without an attorney, and she did so on a particularly meaningful date.
After dating in the early 2000s, getting engaged, and then splitting up, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in 2021. They got married on July 16, 2022, in Las Vegas, followed by a traditional ceremony on August 20, 2022, in Savannah, Georgia.
Lopez’s decision to file for divorce exactly two years after that ceremony seems to be significant, and a source has since weighed in on the timing.
A source told People that by the time Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, she was “done waiting.” The legal documents cite April 26, 2024, as the date of their separation.
“The date she chose to file speaks volumes,” the source added.
Another insider shared, “She tried really hard to make it work and is heartbroken. The kids remain her top priority, as always.”
Lopez has 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck shares three children—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel—with his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Garner.
The legal documents, seen by the BBC, reportedly require both actors to share their financial information. However, they make no mention of a prenuptial agreement.
Lopez has 60 days to disclose her financial details, including properties, income, expenses, and debt. Affleck has an additional 60 days to submit his after she does.
In July, the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion was listed for sale at $68 million, a significant increase from the $61 million they reportedly paid in May 2023.
