Apple’s iPhone Users Are Justifiably Concerned By The New Meaning Of The Orange Dot On Their Screens

If you are engaged in whatever it is you do to drain the battery on your iPhone and you see an orange dot on the screen, you should take caution.

Given the range of uses for phones, it makes logical sense to give consumers a means of learning subjects they may not be aware of but yet need to understand.

The orange dot serves to notify you something, but depending on what you are doing, it could be a benign message or something far more sinister.

Simply said, that orange dot shows that an app is using the microphone of the phone; in many cases, that is quite OK.

Conversely, several iPhone owners worried about seeing the orange dot when not utilizing the microphone for any purpose.

If you’re not sure why the orange dot is on, you might have cause to be worried as some people believe their phone is listening to them.

People have been advised not to use anything that calls for the microphone to be on if they see the dot and so risk major problems.

Many who learned about this claimed feeling “quite alarmed” upon seeing the orange dot, however the most common explanation provided is that they were using an app they had forgotten about.

Keeping shutting them till the dot disappears is the best thing to do if you’re not sure which app it is.

Turn off the phone should it not function. You should start to worry if the orange dot still shows up when you turn it back on.

Though there are certain issues, wouldn’t it be better to have some kind of visual cue when an app on your phone uses the camera or microphone instead of none at all?

To be clear, if you see an orange dot at the top of your phone screen, it indicates that one of the apps on your iPhone is currently using the microphone, which means it is recording your voice.

The presence of a green dot at the same location on the screen indicates that the app is using the phone’s camera rather than the microphone.

For instance, my phone’s screen displays a green dot when I pick it up and use the camera, and it briefly turns orange before shutting off completely when I close an app.

In essence, that’s my phone alerting me that the lens and microphone are in use since I’m using it as a camera. That’s pretty clear, but you should also be aware of the other apps you have open.

Go into your settings and adjust the permissions that different apps have to use your camera and microphone if you’re concerned about the dot showing up.
