A new real estate listing from Deer Creek, Illinois, has gone viral because of its price and style. Built almost entirely under the ground, this home has 832 square feet of living space and is located on a lot that is rather spacious. Because the meat of the property is built under the surface of the Earth, only the roof is visible from outside, making it quite the find for someone who prefers underground living.
The property was built in 1952. Although photos from the exterior don’t make it look that appealing, the home is quite quaint when you get inside and see what the designers have done when putting the home together. The home does include some small windows, which let it a decent amount of natural sunlight, making it a bit more desirable for someone who wants a place to live under the surface of the Earth.
In addition to having two bedrooms and one bathroom, the viral property also has its own washer and dryer on site. The home also comes with an above-ground shed that is a perfect place to store yard materials or transform it into a “she shed.”
Although photos do not make it abundantly clear how a new homeowner would enter the property, the listing does not shy away from trying to paint a picture of a very fun house to live in, describing it as being a “property that offers lots of possibilities!”
“Currently the home is rented but could be a great home to buy and build a larger home with the spacious lot there are plenty of possibilities,” the listing added.
While the exterior is certainly unique and not very appealing, the inside is a totally different story. Someone could get pretty comfortable in this place, so long as they do not mind it being a bit darker than a house built above the ground.
Dozens of people shared their mixed reactions to the property on social media. Many people expressed their interest in the home, while others thought it was lacking.
“No underground parking? I’m disappointed,” one person tweeted.
“Did the house burn down, and they just roofed the foundation?” one person wrote who was not impressed with the Illinois home.
Another person called the house “weird,” while a fourth tweeted, “I can’t even begin to imagine what their anxiety is like every time it rains. How is this even safe?”

Someone else wrote, “I was prepared to hate it, but it’s actually kind of an average modest home on the inside. Personally, I prefer more natural light, but, hey, with the way things are going, we’ll all be living underground soon.”
