A flight expert has revealed why you should never wear leggings on a plane.

Dressing for a long flight can be tricky.

You want to be comfy, have an outfit that isn’t too warm or cold, and even (maybe) look a little stylish.

And now, one expert has issued a stark warning to anyone who chooses to wear leggings while onboard…

People have been left grossed out by the revelation.

One person writes: “I never take my shoes off on a plane. Have you ever seen the floor of the toilet? Planes are one place where men should sit – and that’s coming from my husband!”

Another points out: “She is definitely a pessimist. Maybe just be comfortable as there are not many disasters given the amount of flights each day.”

While a third adds: “I used to dress for travel then I married a pilot. Tennis shoes and jeans (or similar) just in case.”

There have been many revelations about what you should (and shouldn’t) wear onboard a plane.

We’ve already covered the major reason you should never wear Crocs on a flight.

Speaking to Who What Wear, Andre Fischbach, a stewardess with American Airlines, revealed: “Be wary of wearing sandals if you are planning on going in the lavatory.

“That isn’t water on the floor (yes, use your imagination), and sandals invite whatever that liquid is to splash on your feet.”

And flight attendant Tommy Cimato has also encouraged passengers not to wear shorts, as it means ‘less germs’.

But now, a new warning about wearing leggings on planes is rocking the internet…

Aviation expert Christine Negroni has written about air travel for decades and is the author of the New York Times bestseller, ‘The Crash Detectives: Investigating the World’s Most Mysterious Air Disasters’.

She’s revealed all about the items of clothing you should never wear on board – and one thing she firmly recommends is wearing comfortable shoes, and not taking them off mid-flight!

Negroni exclusively tells IGV: “Comfortable flats with a substantial sole that are easy to get off and on are the best choice for air travel.

“In case of an emergency evacuation, the ground outside the plane could be cold, wet, icy, hot or covered in metal, fuel or aeroplane debris.

“If you are using the emergency evacuation chute, you’ll have to remove high-heeled shoes that might puncture the slide which explains why flats are the best shoe choice.

“And while it’s not covered in the Federal Aviation Administration’s rules it is just smart to make sure your shoes are on for takeoff and landing.”

And Negroni has also explained to IGV  that leggings are a no-go for your in-flight outfit.

She says: “Most air accidents are survivable but many also involve fire.

“Leggings are made of synthetic materials. When these chemically produced fibres get hot, they melt and can bond to the skin.

“In 1999, the Federal Aviation Administration said that garments made of cotton, wool, leather, and yes, even denim were preferable over synthetics.”
