Fans are praising a disturbing horror series on Netflix, with viewers saying they’re binge-watching it in a day.

The streaming service has made a name for itself by having some of the best shows to watch on TV– especially when it comes to horror.

From Midnight Mas to Gerald’s Game, you’re spoilt for choice when looking for a fright.

However, one particularly disturbing show has gone under the radar… until now.

Fans are praising the series on social media, with one person writing: “Saw this when it first came out, best series I’ve seen in a long time.”

Another viewer adds: “Such a good show, I watched it twice. Everything about it is perfect.”

“I binge-watched it and I’ll do it again,” comments a third.

Someone else pens: “Man this is really good. It’s beautifully shot, well-directed and written. It’s a great show.”

While a fifth viewer shares: “Easily one of my favourite horrors. It’s an awesome series [and] a must-watch.”

The horror was created by Mike Flanagan, behind series such as The Haunting of Hill House and The Midnight Club.

It stars Zach Gilford, as well as Flanagan’s frequent collaborators such as Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli and Kate Siegel (who is Flanagan’s wife in real life).

The series centres around a young man who returns to his hometown on Crockett Island – he hopes to rebuild his life after serving four years in prison after killing someone in a drunk-driving incident.

“He arrives at the same time as a mysterious, charismatic young priest who begins to revitalise the town’s flagging faith,” the synopsis reads.

“However, the community’s divisions are soon exacerbated by the priest’s deeds while mysterious events befall the small town.”

Released in 2021 – after being delayed due to Covid – it was critically praised and has scored an impressive 87 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Flanagan revealed in an interview with Collider how this was his most personal project, as he used the show as a ‘cathartic’ experience to deal with sobriety.

The filmmaker shared how he had spent a lot of his life in ‘complete denial’ that he had an ‘issue with alcohol’.

He told the publication: “It was also incredibly cathartic because this was a chance to give voice to where I was, in a number of steps along the way.

“The show opens with an anxiety that I think represented my biggest fear about my alcoholism, which wasn’t that I would ruin my marriage, or my children, or my career, or my friendships, all of which I was absolutely worried about.

“It wasn’t that I would die in a horrible drunk driving accident. It was that I would kill someone else and live. That was the worst fear. That was the nightmare scenario.”

So what’s the binge-worthy show you ask…

Flanagan is behind the hugely popular series Midnight Mass and all seven episodes are now available to stream on Netflix.
