WATCH: AOC Rages As Fellow “Squad” Member Loses Race
Following what appeared to be an extended period of progressive dominance following former President Barack Obama’s re-election, the far left is beginning to encounter significant resistance due to its contentious position on Israel. This situation has resulted in one member of the “Squad” being on the verge of losing a primary election, while another, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, has already lost his primary and will not return to Congress for the upcoming term. This development has caused concern for Rep. AOC, another member of the Squad, who successfully secured her own primary victory.
One significant factor contributing to Rep. Bowman’s defeat was his remarks regarding Israel in relation to the Israel-Palestine conflict. These comments prompted the American-Israeli Political Action Committee (AIPAC) to invest an impressive $15 million into the primary election with the objective of unseating him. This AIPAC initiative proved effective, much to the dismay of the Squad.
Among those who expressed their views on his defeat was far-left Representative AOC. In her remarks to reporters regarding Representative Bowman’s loss and the perceived lack of support from Democratic leadership, she stated, “This involved $20 million in significant funding, an unprecedented amount in American history, unequivocally.”
She proceeded to state, “I believe it is essential for us to engage in a genuine discussion regarding AIPAC. It is crucial to address how an organization that is predominantly Republican and largely funded by Republican sources is exerting influence and contributing to a highly divisive atmosphere within the Democratic Party.”
Representative AOC subsequently remarked that AIPAC’s efforts to remove Squad members have complicated her far-left faction’s ability to form coalitions. She conveyed to reporters, “Moreover, it significantly hinders our capacity to build coalitions and establish the winning alliances necessary not only for ensuring our representation at the congressional level.”
She next said, “But they are spending this money into our party for a reason, because we need that coalition to win back House majorities. We need that energy and coalition of a progressive base in order to make sure that we win statewide and federally, and Republicans are pouring money to finance these for a reason because people and representatives like Jamaal Bowman can move and reach communities that many other areas of the Democratic Party cannot.”
She added, “And so if Republicans can finance taking people like that off the board, they can also make it easier for themselves in November. And so I think for all of us as a party, regardless of your stances, it’s very important that we have a conversation about why Republicans are playing such a large role in financing division and among Democrats.”
Representative Bowman expressed comparable sentiments regarding AIPAC just prior to his defeat in the primary election. He declared emphatically, “We are going to demonstrate to AIPAC the strength of the South Bronx! People inquire why I use such strong language. What am I expected to do? You are targeting me! You are targeting my family! You are targeting my children! Am I not meant to defend myself?”
