Hegseth addressed the mounting controversies during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. “This is the classic art of the smear,” he said. “Tiny kernels of truth are blown out of proportion to create a false narrative about who I am. I welcome an honest confirmation hearing, not a trial by media.”
Allegations and Defenses
Recent allegations about Hegseth’s conduct have added fuel to the fire. An NBC News report cited unnamed Fox employees who claimed Hegseth exhibited concerning behavior, including smelling of alcohol before going on air during his time as co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend. Will Cain, a longtime co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend, dismissed the allegations as baseless. “This story is completely fabricated,” Cain wrote on social media. “As someone who worked alongside Pete every week for years, I can say unequivocally that these claims are nonsense.”
Hegseth has also pushed back in an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, emphasizing his qualifications and rejecting what he called “anonymous accusations designed to derail my nomination.”
