Government Watchdog Reveals Major Misuse of International Aid Funds
A recent investigation has uncovered significant concerns surrounding the use of U.S. international aid funding, with new findings pointing to questionable spending tied to past administrative projects.
The probe was spearheaded by officials from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been working alongside technology expert Elon Musk to modernize government systems and eliminate inefficiencies. The department’s latest focus has been on upgrading outdated infrastructure and improving safety measures in public sectors like aviation.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has publicly addressed ongoing safety concerns, especially in the wake of several high-profile transportation incidents. To boost efficiency and safety, Duffy announced that the department is relying on external innovation teams to support modernization efforts. One of those teams helped uncover financial irregularities in past overseas aid initiatives.
According to internal reports, the irregularities relate to funds distributed through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). These funds, originally intended for humanitarian purposes and development programs, were allegedly misdirected, with some projects receiving disproportionately high funding without clear outcomes.
“This isn’t about placing blame,” said Duffy during a press briefing. “It’s about acknowledging what went wrong, learning from it, and moving forward with smarter, more accountable systems.”
The Department of Government Efficiency has emphasized the need for reform, highlighting that too many legacy systems and outdated procedures have contributed to wasteful practices in several government programs. The partnership with tech leaders is aimed at finding long-term solutions and ensuring transparency.
Musk’s involvement has drawn both interest and scrutiny, with some expressing concern over the use of young, non-traditional experts in such serious roles. However, supporters argue that bringing in a new generation of talent is necessary to revitalize aging government systems.
“These individuals may be young, but they are some of the most capable problem-solvers we’ve worked with,” said a department spokesperson. “We’re prioritizing results, not resumes.”
The findings surrounding aid-related spending come amid ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability in federal programs. The department is currently reviewing numerous contracts and overseas initiatives to determine whether public funds have been properly used.
In addition to financial investigations, the department is working to modernize national transportation infrastructure. That includes improved aviation oversight, smarter rail management, and better integration of safety technologies.
Recent transportation mishaps, including aircraft malfunctions and rail-related incidents, have brought renewed attention to the need for systemic upgrades. In response, DOGE is launching new programs aimed at identifying risks before they lead to major accidents.
Though past administrations have also attempted reform, DOGE officials insist that ongoing reviews are focused less on finger-pointing and more on delivering long-overdue improvements.
“We’re committed to building a future where public funds are protected, technology is properly used, and citizens benefit from safe, reliable infrastructure,” said Duffy. “That’s our only agenda.”
As investigations continue, the department has pledged to publish detailed reports outlining its findings and proposed solutions. Meanwhile, plans to modernize transportation systems are already underway, with updates expected later this year.
