Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart Dies at 90 After Cardiac Arrest

Renowned televangelist and gospel singer Jimmy Swaggart has passed away at the age of 90, following complications from cardiac arrest. The beloved minister died on July 1, just over two weeks after suffering a sudden medical emergency on June 15.

Swaggart’s ministry first broke the news on social media shortly after his cardiac arrest, asking supporters around the world to lift him up in prayer. “We need a miracle from heaven right now,” read the heartfelt message posted on Father’s Day. “Please join us in prayer for Brother Swaggart.”

A Legacy of Faith and Evangelism

His family shared the news of his passing through a moving tribute on Facebook, expressing both sorrow and gratitude for his life and ministry. “Today, Brother Swaggart finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ,” the post read. “This is the day he preached and sang about for decades — and now, he has stepped into glory.”

Jimmy Swaggart devoted over 70 years of his life to spreading the Christian message through preaching, music, and television. He became one of the most influential voices in Pentecostal and charismatic circles, known for his impassioned sermons and gospel music. His broadcasts reached millions across the globe, all centered on the core message he championed: Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

“Brother Swaggart was more than a preacher,” his family wrote. “He was a worshiper, a warrior, and a witness to God’s mercy and grace. His faith was unwavering, and he followed every door the Lord opened with boldness.”

Survived by a Devoted Family

He is survived by his wife, Frances Swaggart, their son Donnie, and a large extended family, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family has asked for continued prayers during this time of grief.

They also extended their heartfelt thanks to the medical team at Baton Rouge General Medical Center for the care and compassion shown in Brother Swaggart’s final days.
