Death Row Inmate’s Last Meal Revealed Ahead of State’s First-Ever Execution by Firing Squad Tonight

Death Row Inmate’s Final Meal Revealed Ahead of Historic Execution by Firing Squad

Brad Sigmon, a 67-year-old death row inmate, is set to be executed today (March 7), marking South Carolina’s first execution by firing squad. Convicted in 2001 for the brutal murders of his ex-girlfriend’s parents, Sigmon has spent over two decades on death row.

Authorities say Sigmon entered the Greenville County home of his ex-girlfriend’s parents and fatally attacked them with a baseball bat. He also attempted to kidnap and harm his ex-girlfriend but was ultimately unsuccessful. In addition to receiving two death sentences, he was given a 30-year prison term for burglary.

As the execution approaches, Sigmon was given the customary opportunity to choose his final meal. While some death row inmates have selected elaborate meals, Sigmon reportedly requested three buckets of KFC chicken, intending to share them with fellow inmates. His lawyer, Bo King, revealed this detail while continuing efforts to appeal his sentence.

King argues that Sigmon was experiencing a severe psychotic break at the time of the crime and should not be subjected to the death penalty. “The death penalty is meant for the worst of the worst,” King stated. “Evidence suggests he was not in his right mind during the murders, which raises questions about whether this sentence should be carried out.”

Despite these final legal efforts, the execution is set to proceed, making Sigmon the first person in 15 years to be executed by firing squad in South Carolina.
