Comedian Attacked by 12 Offended Audience Members – What Happened to Pranit More

Comedian Pranit More Attacked by 12 Men Over Joke About Bollywood Actor

Indian comedian Pranit More was violently attacked by a group of 12 men after his stand-up performance at 24K Kraft Brewzz in Solapur, India, on February 2, 2025. The assault was allegedly in retaliation for a joke More made about Bollywood actor Pahariya, who recently debuted in the film Sky Force.

The Attack

According to an official statement released by More’s team via India Today, a group of 11-12 men approached him after the show, initially pretending to be fans. Once most of the audience had left, they launched a brutal attack, repeatedly punching and kicking him. The statement identified Tanveer Shaikh as the leader of the group and confirmed that the assault was in direct response to More’s jokes about Pahariya.

“If a comedian can be physically assaulted for making a joke, what does that say about our basic rights and safety? As Maharashtrian artists, we never imagined that in his own state, he would face such violence just for doing his job,” the statement read.

Actor Pahariya Responds

Following the attack, Pahariya himself addressed the situation, making it clear that he had no involvement.

“Shocked and deeply saddened by what happened, Pranit,” the actor wrote. “I want to make it absolutely clear that I had no involvement in this. I strongly condemn any form of violence. I’ve always taken trolling in stride and would never encourage harm toward anyone, especially a fellow artist. I’m truly sorry this happened to you. I will do whatever I can to ensure those responsible are held accountable. Sending you strength.”

His statement has been widely shared, with many appreciating his swift condemnation of the attack.

Police Investigation and Questions About More’s Whereabouts

The attack has prompted a rapid police investigation. Following More’s post detailing the incident, Solapur police issued a summons requesting him to record his statement. However, according to a report from Money Control, More did not appear for questioning as instructed.

Authorities are now expected to take further measures to secure his cooperation. His absence from the investigation has raised concerns, with some questioning whether he has gone into hiding out of fear. The police continue efforts to gather essential information and resolve the case.

Public Reaction and the Debate on Free Speech

The attack has sparked widespread debate on the safety of artists and the limits of free speech in India. Many have condemned the use of violence against comedians, arguing that humor should not be met with retaliation. Meanwhile, others question why More has not yet provided a statement to police, leaving the investigation incomplete.

As authorities work to uncover the full details, the case remains under scrutiny, with growing calls for justice and protection for artists facing backlash for their work.
