‘Earth-Shattering’ Character Death Is Coming in ‘NCIS’ Season 22 Finale

NCIS Season 22 Finale Teased to Deliver Heartbreaking Loss and Major Shift

Fans of NCIS should brace for an emotional rollercoaster as the Season 22 finale is set to deliver one of the most devastating moments in the show’s recent history. Star Wilmer Valderrama, who portrays Special Agent Nick Torres, recently revealed that a core character will be lost in the episode airing Monday night on CBS.

Speaking during an interview on CBS Mornings, Valderrama shared, “Somebody dies — and it’s not the typical case of the week. It’s someone very close to us.” He emphasized the emotional impact of the loss, calling it “earth-shattering” and hinting at serious consequences for the rest of the team.

Though Valderrama didn’t name the character, he suggested the death will deeply affect the NCIS team and help set the tone for a much more intense Season 23. “It’s going to shake up the team,” he said. “And it’s probably going to push us to go a little rogue.”

Season 22 has been building tension around the Nexus Cartel and Deputy Director LaRoche’s questionable actions. With the finale tying up some of these storylines, fans are expecting major developments — and apparently, a loss that will linger well beyond the closing credits.

Rumors have swirled about who might be leaving. Longtime cast member Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee, previously voiced uncertainty about his future with the series, noting in 2024 that “no one is safe.” That comment has fueled fan speculation, though nothing has been confirmed.

Despite the tragic turn expected in the finale, NCIS has been officially renewed for Season 23. Unless the mystery death involves a main cast member, Valderrama, Murray, Brian Dietzen, Katrina Law, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, and Diona Reasonover are expected to return.

The NCIS Season 22 finale airs Monday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and will be available to stream the next day on Paramount+. Fans can also catch up on the full series, along with spinoffs like NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins on the platform.
