In her public message—originally written in German and later translated to English—Princess Josefa addressed residents of Leonberg and supporters around the world.
“Dear fellow citizens of Leonberg, today I am writing with a heavy heart,” she wrote.
“My beloved husband Harald von Hohenzollern died completely unexpectedly of sudden cardiac death. This loss hits me very deeply.”
The princess added that she would be stepping away from public duties and social media to grieve and focus on the birth of their child.
“I need time to grieve, say goodbye, and be there for our unborn child,” she continued. “That’s why I will be stepping back from campaigning and social media in the coming days. I hope for your understanding during this time and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your condolences and support.”
