CEO on Leave After Viral Coldplay Concert Incident Sparks Company Investigation
A CEO is under internal review after a video of him appearing in an intimate moment with a coworker went viral during a Coldplay concert — drawing widespread attention on social media and raising questions about workplace conduct.
Andy Byron, the CEO of tech company Astronomer, was seen in a video taken during the band’s show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on July 16. The incident unfolded when the concert’s jumbo screen, similar to a kiss cam at a sporting event, panned to various audience members — eventually landing on Byron and Astronomer’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot.
In the video, Byron stands closely behind Cabot with his arms around her waist, while she leans back into him, holding his hands. When they realized they were on the large screen in front of thousands, both visibly panicked — Cabot turned away and covered her face, while Byron quickly crouched down to hide.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who was engaging with the crowd at the time, commented on the moment with an awkward remark: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just really shy,” prompting a wave of laughter and speculation from fans online.
Following the incident, Astronomer’s Board of Directors confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched. In a statement posted on July 18, the company said:
“Astronomer is deeply committed to maintaining a workplace culture rooted in integrity and professionalism. Leadership must reflect those values.”
“The Board has initiated a full investigation and will provide updates as appropriate. Reports claiming Andy Byron has issued a statement are inaccurate — he has not made any public comment.”
On July 19, the company issued a follow-up announcement via LinkedIn, confirming that Byron has been placed on leave during the internal review. Astronomer’s Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Pete DeJoy, will step in as interim CEO in the meantime.
“We understand the public interest in this matter and will share updates as necessary,” the post stated.
The TikTok video capturing the moment has since garnered millions of views, with reactions ranging from humorous to critical. The person behind the original clip, Grace Springer, told The Sun she had no idea who the couple was when she recorded the footage.
“I just thought it was a funny kiss cam moment and decided to post it,” she explained. “I do feel a little bad that it blew up like this… but sometimes people make choices that come back to bite them.”
As of now, neither Byron nor Cabot have publicly commented on the situation. The company has emphasized that no other employees were involved in the video, and it is working to assess the matter internally.
