Newly released police records from Las Vegas reveal that the mother of Shane Tamura — the gunman behind last week’s deadly Midtown Manhattan shooting — had repeatedly called 911 in the years leading up to the attack, warning authorities about her son’s declining mental health and history of sports-related head trauma, as reported by The New York Post.
According to 911 recordings released Tuesday by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Tamura’s mother had informed officers as early as September 12, 2022, that her son kept a firearm in his backpack and had threatened to kill himself.
She told dispatchers, “He said he’s going to kill himself… he just said he just can’t take it anymore.”
The call was made from a stairwell outside a Budget Suites Motel in Las Vegas. Tamura’s mother told authorities she stepped outside to avoid escalating her son’s behavior.
She also stated that Tamura was under medical care for depression, concussion-like symptoms, chronic migraines, and insomnia.
