In response to numerous appeals from President Donald Trump and conservatives across the nation, the Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has initiated a grand jury investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James for her alleged biased conduct in a $454 million civil fraud lawsuit against Donald Trump.
To provide context, the DOJ is investigating potential violations of rights and is also scrutinizing her purported case against the National Rifle Association. James’ office has been served with subpoenas, leading to a significant backlash from her supporters and allies.
This was evident when Abbe Lowell, an attorney representing Letitia James, released an impassioned statement regarding the grand jury investigation. She lamented, “The investigation into the fraud case that Attorney General James successfully pursued against President Trump and his businesses represents the most overt and desperate instance of this administration executing the president’s political retribution agenda.”
Making unfounded accusations against the Department of Justice, she further stated, “Utilizing the Department of Justice to penalize an elected official for performing her duties constitutes an assault on the rule of law and a perilous escalation by this administration. Should prosecutors engage in this improper strategy and genuinely seek the truth, we are prepared with the facts and legal arguments.”
A spokesperson for the contentious Democrat expressed similar views. James’s spokesperson asserted, “Any misuse of the justice system should alarm every American. We firmly support our successful legal actions against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will persist in defending the rights of New Yorkers.
In a futile effort to justify her actions, James contended that Trump’s trial was conducted fairly and refuted ongoing allegations of preferential treatment. She remarked, “If ordinary New Yorkers entered a bank and presented false documents, the government would impose severe penalties, and the same standard should apply to former presidents.”
As one might expect, there exists a significant animosity between the president and the disgraced official from New York, with Trump having issued several passionate condemnations of her behavior. He remarked, “This is a political witch hunt, and I believe she ought to feel ashamed of herself.” In a similar vein, he jested, “Letitia James, a completely corrupt politician, should resign from her role as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY.”
Other prominent Republicans, including Special Advisor Stephen Miller, have persistently criticized Letitia James for her biased and corrupt actions. In a recent declaration, he stated, “Letitia James is among the most corrupt, shameless individuals to ever occupy public office. She is guilty, not only of those crimes, but of numerous additional offenses by misusing your public office to attempt to persecute an innocent man.”
Elaborating on her actions against the president, he added, “She is depriving him of his rights, participating in a conspiracy to obstruct our election and to undermine our democratic processes and procedures. She is culpable of multiple serious serial criminal violations.”
These remarks provoked a dramatic response from the New York Attorney General, who lamented, “Allow me to express to all New Yorkers and to all Americans, the allegations are unfounded. The allegations are merely a revenge tour. Furthermore, as you noted, my office successfully secured a $454 million judgment against Donald Trump and others for inflating the value of his assets.
