The next time a socialist — or a Democrat, which is increasingly the same thing — solemnly declares that they “care about the children,” feel free to remind them of this shameful episode.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the self-styled moral authority who has spent decades lecturing America about compassion, empathy, and “healthcare as a human right,” just voted to block bipartisan legislation designed to help children with cancer.
Yes, really.
One week before Christmas, Sanders objected to advancing the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act, a bill aimed at improving access to lifesaving treatments and advancing research for pediatric cancer patients. The bill had bipartisan support and zero controversy — until Bernie Sanders decided to play politics with dying children.
A Bill to Help Kids — Blocked by a Socialist
According to a press release from Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), the Give Kids a Chance Act would improve outcomes for children battling cancer by:
- Advancing critical pediatric cancer research
- Expanding access to essential treatments
- Helping families navigate experimental and cutting-edge therapies
In other words, this was exactly the kind of legislation Sanders claims to support every time a microphone is placed in front of him.
Mullin attempted to move the bill forward via unanimous consent, a routine process used for non-controversial measures. That’s when Sanders raised an objection — effectively killing the bill on the spot.
Why? Because of Obamacare politics.
Sanders argued that the bill didn’t go far enough to align with his broader healthcare agenda and used the moment to grandstand about Medicare for All — because apparently, nothing says “caring about kids” like blocking help unless your ideological wishlist is met first.
Mullin Unleashes on ‘Grinchy Hypocrisy’
Mullin did not mince words.
On the Senate floor, he torched Sanders for turning children with cancer into political pawns — especially at Christmas.
“I’m talking about giving kids a chance,” Mullin said.
“It has nothing to do with politics.”
Then came the comparison that instantly went viral:
“You know, this time of year, at Christmas, we talk about Grinches all the time, right?
They go in and steal the kids’ gifts — but at the end of the show, their hearts grow bigger, and they give the gift back.”
Mullin’s implication was clear: Sanders had stolen something far more important than toys — hope — and unlike the fictional Grinch, showed no sign of repentance.
The Hypocrisy Is the Point
This wasn’t about policy details. It wasn’t about legislative nuance. And it certainly wasn’t about improving healthcare.
It was about control.
Sanders has always believed that if a bill doesn’t advance his preferred ideology, then no help should be given at all — even if real people suffer as a result. That mindset is socialism in its purest form: nothing matters unless the system is remade first.
Children with cancer? They can wait.
Christmas? Irrelevant.
Bipartisan goodwill? Disposable.
Democrats’ Favorite Talking Point Collapses
For years, Democrats have wrapped themselves in the language of compassion, accusing Republicans of cruelty at every turn. But moments like this expose the truth: their concern is conditional.
They care — as long as they control the process.
They support help — as long as it advances their power.
They defend kids — until it interferes with their ideology.
Bernie Sanders didn’t just object to a bill. He revealed exactly how hollow his moral posturing really is.
And this time, it wasn’t abstract policy or future promises. It was children. With cancer. At Christmas.
That’s not principled.
That’s not compassionate.
That’s just grotesque.
